PRESENTATIONS
Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)
At minute 25:25, I begin my presentation, first providing an overview of my archiving work in the Soho loft of the pioneering electronic musician Laurie Spiegel (recently featured in the 2020 documentary 'Sisters With Resistors’). I also discuss my archival work in the (now obsolescing) legendary media art archives of Eyebeam in Brooklyn. Lastly, I present insights unearthed in my ethnographic ‘fieldwork’ in the New York City art market. My interviews with Chelsea gallery owners, directors, curators and international art collectors focused on difficulties surrounding the sale, preservation and collectability of contemporary digital art.
'BEST of' Poster Presentation
The Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) awarded me a ‘best of’ award for the design and presentation of my research poster, showcased at their annual conference. I graphically detailed the trajectory of ‘old time’ music from Africa, the southern states and finally into Appalachia. I took this path one step further by exploring the new route that leads to young contemporary punk musicians. It served as a visual prototype in the translation of my documentary short, Appalachian Punks, into a virtual (web-based) interactive documentary.
